This adult Babinski patella hammer is a reflex hammer for neurological examinations, suited to medical students and clinicians. About the plantar end
The tapered end is deliberately blunt. The Babinski (plantar) reflex is elicited with firm stimulation of the sole, not by breaking the skin, so a sharp point is not needed and can cause withdrawal that makes the response harder to read. The smooth tip does not break the skin and can be cleaned between patients with standard surface cleaning.
