Buying guide
Which goniometer do physiotherapy students need?
A goniometer measures joint range of motion. The main choice is arm length, and many physio and OT students end up with both sizes.
12-inch or 8-inch?
A 12-inch (30 cm) goniometer gives better reach and leverage on large joints such as the shoulder, hip and knee. An 8-inch (20 cm) goniometer is easier to line up on the wrist, elbow and ankle. Both WiZmed sizes have a 360° dial in 1° steps and are latex-free. The ADC multi-use goniometers have cm and inch scales on the arm, and the 12-inch ADC holds its reading until reset. The ADC 8-inch is a compact two-scale version for smaller joints.

Buying for physio or OT practicals
The Physio and Rehab Assessment Kit includes the 12-inch and 8-inch goniometers with a 128 Hz tuning fork, a Babinski patella hammer, the Measuring Tape PRO and a BMI tape. For transfer and walking practice, a gait belt with handles gives you a secure hold on the patient. Buying the kit means one order and one delivery for the whole practical list. The 8-inch WiZmed goniometer carries a 2-year warranty.
Questions we get asked
Before you buy
What is a goniometer used for?
It measures the angle of a joint, so you can record active and passive range of motion and track change over time. It is standard kit in physiotherapy, occupational therapy and orthopaedics.
Do I need both goniometer sizes?
If you assess both large and small joints, yes. The 12-inch suits shoulder, hip and knee; the 8-inch suits wrist, elbow and ankle. The Physio and Rehab Assessment Kit includes both.
How accurate is the scale?
The WiZmed and ADC goniometers are marked in 1° steps on a 360° dial. Repeatable readings depend mostly on lining up the arms with the correct landmarks.
