Buying guide
Littmann Lightweight II S.E. or Classic III?
The Lightweight II S.E. is the lightest Littmann adult stethoscope. Here is who it suits and when the Classic III is the better buy.
Who is the Lightweight II S.E. for?
It weighs 118 g and has a teardrop-shaped, dual-sided chestpiece that sits easily under a blood pressure cuff and around bandages. One side is a tunable diaphragm and the other an open bell, both with non-chill rims. The tubing is 71 cm and made without natural rubber latex. It suits nursing students, nurses and anyone whose work is mostly blood pressures and routine checks, and it carries a 2-year Littmann warranty. It comes in black, burgundy, Caribbean Blue and ceil blue, and is made in the USA.
When to choose the Classic III instead
The Classic III adds a tunable paediatric side, longer-lasting next-generation tubing and a 5-year warranty. If you will be listening to hearts and chests every day, as medical students do, it is worth the step up. If you already own a Lightweight, the 40020 spare parts kit replaces the tunable diaphragm and rim, the non-chill bell sleeve and the eartips, so the stethoscope keeps sealing well for years.
