Which Littmann stethoscope should you buy?
We stock four adult Littmann lines and two for small patients. The right one depends on where you work and how much listening you do, not on the colour.
Lightweight II S.E., Classic III or Cardiology IV?
Think of the range as three steps. The Lightweight II S.E. is the entry-level model: 118 g, a teardrop chestpiece that slides under a blood pressure cuff, a tunable diaphragm on one side and an open bell on the other, and a 2-year warranty. The Classic III is the mid-range all-rounder that most students start with: tunable diaphragms on both the adult and paediatric sides, next-generation tubing that resists skin oils and alcohol, and a 5-year warranty. The Cardiology IV is the premium dual-sided model, with a chestpiece 40% larger and a bell 60% deeper than the Classic III and a 7-year warranty. The Lightweight suits nursing and blood-pressure work, the Classic III suits students and general wards, and the Cardiology IV suits interns and anyone heading into emergency, ICU or cardiology.

Where does the Master Cardiology fit?
The Master Cardiology sits at the top of the acoustic range. It has a single-sided chestpiece with one tunable diaphragm, so you change between low and high frequencies by changing pressure, never by turning the chestpiece over. It uses dual-lumen tubing and carries the same 7-year warranty as the Cardiology IV. It suits doctors who do a lot of cardiac auscultation; for general ward work the Cardiology IV or Classic III covers more patients with less cost.

Do I need a paediatric stethoscope?
If you mostly see adults, no: the Classic III and Cardiology IV both have a paediatric side. If you work in paediatrics or neonates every day, the Classic II Paediatric (3.3 cm diaphragm) and Classic II Infant (2.7 cm diaphragm) give you a chestpiece sized for small chests, with a 3-year warranty.
Does the finish change how it sounds?
Within a model, the finish is a choice of look. A Classic III in stainless steel, rainbow, smoke, champagne or the matte Black Edition has the same tunable dual-sided chestpiece; the Satin Finish editions are listed with the same acoustics as the standard model. Pick the model first, then the colour you will be happy wearing every day. Black tubes and stainless chestpieces are the most discreet; brighter tubes are easier to spot when stethoscopes pile up in a doctors' room.

Keeping it working
Diaphragms and eartips wear out long before the chestpiece does. Genuine Littmann spare parts kits are matched to each model, and replacement tubing is available for both the Classic and the Cardiology families.

Before you buy
How much is a Littmann stethoscope?
It depends on the model. The Lightweight II S.E. is the entry-level Littmann, the Classic III and the Classic II Paediatric sit in the mid-range, and the Cardiology IV and Master Cardiology are the premium models. Current prices for every colour are shown on the product grid above.
Classic III or Cardiology IV for medical school?
Most students start with the Classic III: it covers adults and children, has a 5-year warranty and is easier on the budget. Choose the Cardiology IV if you expect to work in critical care or cardiology, or simply want the larger chestpiece, deeper bell and 7-year warranty from the start.
Can you engrave my Littmann?
Yes. We laser-engrave names in-house and usually finish on the day you order. Tick the engraving option on the product page and type the text you want. On the Classic II Paediatric and Infant the chestpiece is too small, so the name goes on the earpieces.
Are your Littmann stethoscopes genuine?
Yes. We are an authorised Littmann distributor, and each stethoscope comes with its Littmann warranty: 2 years on the Lightweight II S.E., 3 on the Classic II Paediatric and Infant, 5 on the Classic III and 7 on the Cardiology IV and Master Cardiology.
Can I collect in Cape Town?
Yes. Collection in Cape Town is free, Monday to Friday from 10:00 to 16:00. We also ship nationwide from Cape Town.
