Satin tubing.
Littmann now makes the Cardiology IV with satin-finish tubing. The chestpiece, the diaphragms and the sound are unchanged. Only the tube is different: a soft, low-sheen coating in place of the usual gloss.

Gloss or satin.
Gloss tubing throws back a sharp reflection. Satin spreads the light out, so the colour reads evenly under a ward light.

Drag the line to compare. On a computer, the pointer moves the light. A drawing of the two finishes, not a photograph.
What the coating does.
- 1Less clingThe coating lowers surface friction, so the tube is less likely to stick to hair, skin or a collar.
- 2Easier to keep cleanIt resists stains and debris, and wipes clean between patients.
- 3SofterThe tube is more flexible. It drapes around the neck and folds into a pocket more easily.
- 4Harder wearingIt stands up to scratches and everyday wear better than standard tubing.
As Littmann describes the finish. The acoustics are the same as the standard tube.
