Is the Cardiology IV worth it over the Classic III?

The Cardiology IV is the step up for people who listen for subtle sounds every shift. Here is what changes, and when it makes sense.

Cardiology IV vs Classic III

Both are dual-sided with tunable diaphragms for adult and paediatric patients. The Cardiology IV has a chestpiece 40% larger and a bell 60% deeper than the Classic III, and the chestpiece works as an open or closed bell. It is built to help you pick up hard-to-hear sounds such as aortic stenosis, S3 gallops and faint pulmonary findings, which is why it suits ED, ICU and cardiac units. The warranty is 7 years against the Classic III's 5. If you are a junior student, the Classic III is usually enough; if you are an intern or heading into acute care, the Cardiology IV is a good long-term buy.

Cardiology IV or Master Cardiology?

The Master Cardiology uses one single-sided chestpiece with a tunable diaphragm and dual-lumen tubing, so you never turn it over. The Cardiology IV keeps a second, smaller side for children and tight spots. Most clinicians who see a mix of patients prefer the Cardiology IV. Both carry a 7-year Littmann warranty, and both take a replacement binaural from the Cardiology tubing range when the tube wears.

Every Cardiology IV here has the same tunable dual-sided chestpiece; the finish is about looks. Stainless steel is the plain option, the Black Edition is fully black, and high-polish smoke, rainbow, champagne and mirror chestpieces add colour. Satin Finish editions have a soft, scratch-resistant tube. Pick the finish you will be happy with for years, because a Cardiology IV is a long-term instrument.
