Guedel or Berman airways: which sizes?
Both are oropharyngeal airways that hold the tongue off the back of the throat in an unconscious patient. The ADC Guedel kit has eight colour-coded sizes, and the Berman kit has six with a bite block; each airway is embossed with its size in mm. To size one, hold it against the face: it should reach from the centre of the incisors to the angle of the jaw. A boxed set means you have the right size for an adult or a child when you need it. Only insert one in a patient without a gag reflex.
CPR face shield or pocket mask?
The Adsafe Plus face shield is a single-use barrier with a one-way valve and filter that lives on your key ring, for unplanned CPR. The Adsafe pocket resuscitator is a cushioned mask with a one-way valve. It gives a better seal, and turned upside down it fits infants and children. Its 15 mm connector takes a bag or oxygen tubing.
Which ring cutter?
The ADC 380 ring cutter removes a ring from a swollen or injured finger. A safety lever slides a protective plate between the finger and the ring, and a thumbscrew drives the serrated blade through the band. It belongs in emergency units, theatre and first-aid kits. Keep everything together in the ADC 1025 trauma bag, which has 18 elastic tool holders and three padded compartments.

What are oropharyngeal airway sizes?
Oropharyngeal airways come in colour-coded sizes for neonates to large adults, marked in mm on the airway. Choose the one that reaches from the centre of the incisors to the angle of the jaw. Our Guedel kit has eight sizes and the Berman kit six.
Are the airways reusable?
No. The ADC Guedel and Berman airways are single-use, non-sterile and made without natural rubber latex.
What is the best ring cutter?
Look for a guard that protects the finger while you cut. The ADC 380 has a safety lever that slides a plate under the ring and a thumbscrew-driven serrated blade.
Is the face shield reusable?
No. The Adsafe Plus face shield is single use. Replace it after a resuscitation. It is latex-free and comes in a key-ring case.
